Sebastian Polter faces a long spell on the sidelines.

Schalke 04 forward Sebastian Polter is expected to be out for a long time after injuring his knee.
As confirmed by the Bundesliga club today, the 31-year-old suffered a suspected cruciate ligament injury in yesterday’s friendly draw with FC Zürich.

“First and foremost, I would like to give my best recovery wishes to Polti. We will support him in everything he needs on his way back onto the pitch,” said Schalke boss Peter Knäbel.

“In the coming days, we will now analyze what impact Polti’s absence will have on our planning for the rest of the season.”

Polter, who joined Schalke from Bochum last summer, has found the net once in 16 games this season.
