Ligue 1 side FC Nantes have made an opening offer to Schalke for Florent Mollet, according to WAZ.
The Frenchman joined the Bundesliga club in the summer but has failed to make an impact, meaning he could leave S04 just six months after his €500k move from Montpellier.
Mollet has played just nine Bundesliga games this season, of which he started in four, totalling 407 minutes, but has scored just one goal after struggling to make an impact.
The 31-year-old has a contract with Schalke until 2025 but would be open to a return to France, and the Royal Blues are unlikely to stand in his way as they look to rebuild under Thomas Reis, who replaced Frank Kramer. However, S04 would only be open to a sale, not a loan, and would like to make a profit.
Schalke find themselves bottom of the Bundesliga after just 15 games and are already five points adrift of the promotion playoff, currently occupied by Stuttgart.
With a considerable debt, Schalke must also navigate the transfer market carefully, which has so far resulted in the loan signings of Niklas Tauer and Jere Uronen.
