Newly-promoted Bundesliga side Schalke have today confirmed that they will not trigger their option to buy for Manchester City defender Ko Itakura.
After spending the season on loan in Germany, S04 had a reported €6m purchase option on the 25-year-old.
“Ko is a fantastic person and he is a great addition to any dressing room. He was a key figure in our journey towards winning promotion and finishing top of the 2. Bundesliga,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.
Itakura played 32 times for Schalke last season, helping the Royal Blues return to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking.
