Schalke 04 are set to sign central defender Moritz Jenz from FC Lorient, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 23-year-old Berlin native has been on loan at Scottish side Celtic this season but is set to leave the club and head straight to Germany. On Tuesday morning, Jenz said his goodbyes to his teammates and made his way to Germany to complete the signing.
Contracted to Lorient until 2026, Jenz is expected to sign on loan for S04 with an option to buy.
Before the World Cup break, Jenz featured heavily for Celtic, playing 19 times and scoring on two occasions. However, head coach Ange Postecoglou is yet to pick him since the restart of the Scottish Premiership.
This is possibly down to the return of Carl Starfelt and the signing of Yuki Kobayashi which has meant Jenz has shifted down in the pecking order.
Schalke have had to be careful with their transfer activity this winter due to their poor financial situation. However, they’re obtaining an experienced yet young defender in Jenz who will certainly help the backline.
