Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has revealed who he wants to fight next in boxing.

The former pound-for-pound star, arguably boxing’s most renowned fighter in the post-Floyd Mayweather era, dropped a lopsided decision to Terence Crawford in September during TKO’s first foray into big-time boxing, in a bout that aired on Netflix. With the defeat, Canelo lost the undisputed super middleweight world championship titles — belts he’d held in one form or another since 2020.

There has been great speculation as to whom Canelo would fight next, and the Mexican superstar said Thursday that there is only one opponent on his mind.

Speaking to TV Azteca, Canelo revealed his plans for next year and confirmed that the one goal on his mind is simple: revenge. He wants to fight Crawford in a rematch.

The first fight between Canelo and Crawford was groundbreaking as it was the first combat sports event to be held at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas — home of the NFL franchise; the Raiders. More than 70,000 fans turned up at the gate, with a significant audience of 10s of millions tuning into Netflix. Canelo has not returned to boxing since, as Ring Magazine reported that he underwent elbow surgery in October, and would not be able to train for four to six weeks. He was, previously, hinting at a February 2026 date, but it is, as yet, unclear if that’s still in play.

Canelo had also been linked with a bout against Chris Eubank Jr. However, the British super middleweight’s recent loss to Conor Benn, in which he looked dehydrated, weight-drained, and boxed on shot legs, suggests that there’d now be reduced fan appetite for a Wembley Stadium showdown against Canelo.
