At a press conference on Tuesday, Leroy Sané was asked about the possibility of starting against Spain on Friday.

Leroy Sané made his first start of Euro 2024 in Germany’s 2-0 last-16 win over Denmark on Saturday at the expense of Florian Wirtz, who had started the previous three games.

Whether Sané will retain his starting spot against Spain in Friday’s quarter-final is currently up in the air, according to the player himself.

“It’s not clear whether I’ll start on Friday or not. I only found out on the day of the game against Denmark. But it was good for me to be back on the pitch for a longer period of time,” Sané said at the press conference.

On his communication with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, he added:

“He communicates very openly and directly. We all accept his decisions very well, whatever the starting eleven looks like. That makes us different to a certain extent.”

Towards the end of the 2023/24 season, Sané played through a pubic bone problem with Bayern that he finally seems to have fully recovered from.

“The situation wasn’t clear. I didn’t know how long and if the injury would last. Then I took a risk because we were still in the Champions League. Now I’m sitting here and I’m happy that everything worked out and that I made it to the European Championship,” Sané said about the injury.

“I feel good, I haven’t had any pain in the last few games. I also feel good after the matches. Before, sometimes it took five or six days for the pain to go away.”
