Samuel Umtiti has come to an agreement with Serie A side Lecce regarding personal terms of a contract, as broken by Fabrizio Romano.
Barcelona have been trying to part ways with the Frenchman during this transfer window. Umtiti is not part of Xavi’s future plans and the offloading of the centre-back could free up the finances necessary to meet La Liga regulations and register new signings such as Jules Koundé.
According to the agreement, Barcelona will continue paying the player’s wages, but he will receive add-ons throughout the season.
Umtiti is expected to travel to Italy next week once the two clubs have finalised the deal.
At the end of July it was reported that Olympiacos were considering to sign the 28-year-old and representatives even went to Barcelona to negotiate a possible transfer.
However, the opportunity to join Lecce would allow Umtiti to continue playing at the highest level of European football.
