Saël Kumbedi (20) will now officially join Wolfsburg on a permanent transfer from Olympique Lyonnais after the clause inserted in his loan deal was met. If the France youth international made 5 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, the move would be automatically made permanent. The 20-year-old made his 5th appearance for the German club at the weekend in a 3-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.
Kumbedi failed to make an appearance in the opening 6 Bundesliga matchday. However, the defender has now featured in the club’s last 5 matches in the German first division. Wolfsburg will now pay Lyon a fee of €6m for the Frenchman, with a further €2m owed to the Ligue 1 club if performance-related add-ons are met.
Whilst OL have relinquished their ownership of the player, they will be interested in his future moves. Les Gones hold a 10% sell-on fee in any potential moves Kumbedi makes after signing for the Bundesliga outfit.
