Real Madrid have confirmed that Antonio Rüdiger has undergone surgery on his left knee.
According to Sky Germany, the 32-year-old defender is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, while Spanish media estimates his recovery could take six to eight weeks.
This injury casts doubt on Rüdiger’s participation in Germany’s UEFA Nations League Final Four tournament, but Sky reports that the defender remains hopeful he can recover in time.
Even if fully fit, Rüdiger would not have been able to play for Real Madrid again this season, as he is facing a lengthy suspension for throwing an object at the referee during his team’s Copa del Rey final defeat to FC Barcelona.
Germany are scheduled to face Portugal in the Nations League semifinal on June 4.
