Romelu Lukaku: “Thierry Henry will be the next Belgium coach”

Belgium and Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has said that Thierry Henry will be the next manager of the Red Devils.

Lukaku was under the spotlight in the FIFA World Cup, as Belgium got knocked out of the competition in the group stages. Lukaku’s misses in the game against Croatia proved crucial, as Henry was seen hugging the striker at the end of the tie.

The ex-Manchester United man recently spoke to Sky Italia about a host of things including his future at Inter, Chelsea and Belgium. He also gave his opinion about Henry, while stating his belief that the Frenchman will be the next manager of the Belgian national side.

He stated: “For me, Henry is the next coach of Belgium. There are no doubts. I say it openly: he will be the next coach. He has the respect of all the players, he has won everything. He knows how to coach, he knows what we have to do to get there. He knows the team, the league, the staff. For me he is the ideal coach for our national team. 

“Then I don’t know who they will take. But I don’t think Belgium should start from scratch. So far this generation hasn’t won but we have to keep trying to win. He wants to win, and I don’t think the federation is going to get a coach who wants to change everything and start from scratch. It’s not worth it to me.”

While Lukaku did feature at some points during the World Cup, the striker came into the game with an injury and he last started for Inter back in August in a game against Lazio. Injury issues had kept him out of action for a while and even though he did return, he picked up another muscle issue that had put his World Cup in doubt.
