Roma boss José Mourinho speaks out on fresh Super League plans

Roma head coach José Mourinho has provided his take on the renewed push for a European Super League to be put in place.

The subject of the Super League has of course found itself back front and centre in the headlines across world football over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes after the clubs still pushing for its establishment – namely Barcelona and Real Madrid – were handed a major boost.

On the back of lengthy legal proceedings, the European Court of Justice found that UEFA and FIFA alike had contravened EU law by preventing the formation of a Super League, back in 2021.

This put UEFA on the back foot, in confirming that the likes of Barca, Real and Juventus had in fact not broken any rules in attempting to lay the foundations for a new landscape-changing club competition.

A whole host of clubs from across the continent, though, have nevertheless provided their backing to UEFA, in adamantly refusing to provide their backing to the Super League project.

One such club comes in the form of Roma, who on Thursday made public their rejection of the ESL.

Speaking to the media this evening, Giallorossi boss Jose Mourinho was therefore asked for his stance on the situation.

And the Portuguese, as cited by TuttomercatoWeb, was quick to throw his support behind those in a position of power at the Stadio Olimpico, in explaining:

“I am Roma’s coach and Roma’s position is mine too. I won’t comment, I have a lot of experience in football and I’ve experienced it at different times but I don’t want any analysis or publicity. Roma’s position is clear and I am Roma’s coach.”
