Leverkusen Sporting Director Simon Rolfes shared his frustration following the company club’s lifeless performance against Frankfurt on Matchday 10.

| Xabi Alonso | Bayer 04 Leverkusen |
After a hopeful win against Schalke last weekend, 16th-place Leverkusen have fallen harshly back to Earth with disastrous performances against Porto and now Frankfurt. Sporting Director Simon Rolfes struggled finding the words to describe their 5-1 loss on Saturday:
“It was just bad. We have failed collectively. From back to front. – We have to accept the situation.”
Leverkusen, who lost in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, don’t play until Saturday against Wolfsburg. This means that Xabi Alonso has an entire week without a game to better implement his preferred tactics in training.
Rolfes understands the only current goal is to distance themselves from the relegation zone:
“The only next step is to fight your way out of there. – We have to use this training week. An impulse must come from every individual who is involved.”
