Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has delivered an update on the future of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku joined the west Londoners last summer for a club-record £98.5million after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers during a two-year spell with Serie A giants Inter Milan. However, he failed to recapture the same kind of form during his return to the Premier League, finding the back of the net just eight times in the English top-flight last term.
The Belgian international also flirted with the idea of a return to the San Siro during an interview, infuriating the Blues’ faithful and manager Thomas Tuchel in the process. The 29-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with some reports suggesting that a loan move to the Nerazzurri could be possible this summer.

Now, the aforementioned Marinez has had his say on the whole situation, claiming that recovering from his ongoing ankle injury is the only thing on Lukaku’s mind at this moment in time. Speaking to Rte, the Spaniard said: “In Belgium we are quite relaxed with Romelu’s situation.
“I know it is a big topic, but at the moment he is trying to recover from the injury and that’s the only thing he has in his mind. If he stays at Chelsea it’ll be for the right reasons.
“If he’s moving away it will be because everyone agrees to it. Romelu is a player I know very well. I managed him at club level [at Everton] at a very young age.”
“He was 19 and had a very different position than he has now. Now he’s a player who’s very mature and very clear what he wants. He wants to be important and enjoy his football. I’m sure the decision in the summer will be the right one.”
