The ongoing psychodrama of Olympique de Marseille’s season rages on. After a string of positive results, Roberto De Zerbi’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Racing Club de Lens last night at the Vélodrome. According to a report from La Provence, all was not well during the week – especially concerning Mason Greenwood and Luis Henrique who were benched by De Zerbi to face Lens on Saturday.
La Provence journalist Fabrice Lamperti reported that the Italian coach flew into a rage this week at Greenwood and Henrique in a rant which was heard beyond the walls of the training ground’s building – to the surprise of the rest of the Marseille squad. De Zerbi was not happy with two of his most key players’ involvement in training, proceeding to drop the pair for Amar Dedic and Bilal Nadir.
Only hours earlier had De Zerbi warned of such during his pre-match press conference, stating boldly “If someone trains badly, they won’t play, no matter who they are.” It came as a warning for Greenwood and Henrique, with the former already receiving criticism from his coach regarding his recent performances.
“I expect more from him,” said De Zerbi at Friday’s press conference attended by Get French Football News. “He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough. If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined.”
