Rico Lewis has reportedly agreed a new six-year contract with Manchester City.
The 18-year-old’s current deal at the Etihad Stadium is set to run out in June 2024, but the Citizens have offered him fresh terms that will see his salary increase fivefold.
According to the Daily Mail, the youngster is poised to sign an initial five-year contract with City having the option to extend it by another 12 months.
Lewis joined Man City’s youth academy at the age of eight and progressed through its youth ranks to earn his competitive debut in August 2022 against Bournemouth.
He enjoyed an impressive 2022-23 campaign as he racked up 23 appearances across all competitions to help his side win the continental treble.
The England Under-21 international mainly played as a right-back, but he performed roles in midfield and central defence too.
The 18-year-old earned 905 minutes in the Premier League last season, averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.9 clearances and 0.9 key passes per game (as per Whoscored). He also boasted an incredible 92 percent passing accuracy.
Manager Pep Guardiola is said to rate him very highly, giving the youngster many first-team opportunities last term.
Given his versatility and technical qualities, Lewis looks to have a very bright future ahead of him.
Manchester City also want to extend the contract of Nathan Ake who played an instrumental role in the club’s successes last season.
It is said that the Citizens plan to make him one of their highest-paid players.
