German supermarket group REWE has ended its sponsorship deal with the German Football Association (DFB) with immediate effect.
REWE has reacted to the decision not to wear the OneLove armband at the World Cup in Qatar due to the threat of disciplinary action from FIFA.
“We stand for diversity and football too is about diversity,” commented REWE CEO Lionel Souque.
“The scandalous position of FIFA is for me as CEO of a diverse enterprise, and as a football fan, absolutely unacceptable.”
REWE already informed the DFB in October that their long-standing partnership would not be continued. But with this statement, the deal is terminated immediately.
