Borussia Dortmund will face Bayern München in the Saturday night “Top-Spiel” during matchday 26 on April 1st.
BVB captain Marco Reus made clear that he was looking forward to it, and provided updates on his contract extension talks whilst conducting his post-match interview.
“It was important to top the table [at least temporarily] today,” Reus told his Sky interviewer, “and to put pressure on Bayern. Now we have a really great game in front before us in two weeks’ time.”
Reus finds himself in his most thrilling title-chase with his current club since the 2018/19 campaign. The question as to whether this will be the last chance for often unlucky German footballing mega-talent remains a live one. Sitting on an expiring contract, there’s conflicting reports as to whether the BVB wish to carry on with their frequently injured skipper.
The latest rumors hold that Dortmund are prepared to tender Reus an offer to play on for one more year. Negotiations may drag on for a bit as it is rumored that Reus may have to take a pay-cut. The veteran seemed to indicate that he would be willing to accept that rather than finish up his playing days on some tangential club.
“I’ve said it in the past few weeks, months and years that I would like to end my career here,” Reus noted after emphasizing that Sebastian Kehl, and not he, drafted the contracts, “I feel really good here and we’ll see. We are in talks. The rest will emerge in the coming weeks.”
