Leeds United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of a key summer signing, with a reported target now actively pushing for a move to Elland Road.

This could be a game-changer for head coach Daniel Farke as he aims to guide the Whites back to the Premier League.

After falling short in last season’s play-off final against Southampton, Leeds are determined to secure automatic promotion this time around. With just eight games left, they currently sit at the top of the Championship on goal difference, narrowly edging out Sheffield United and Burnley in a tight race for a Premier League return.

“If you ever think about doing something like that again, your backside will be OUT that door before it touches the ground!” – which former Man Utd star almost got kicked out by Fergie?

Off the pitch, the club is already laying the groundwork for next season, regardless of which division they find themselves in. Transfer plans are well underway, and Leeds have been linked with a number of potential signings.

Another name generating excitement among fans is former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to TeamTalk, Leeds already have a verbal agreement in place with the Manchester City player, who is currently on loan at Ipswich Town. If Farke’s side secures promotion, Phillips could be set for an emotional return to Elland Road.

City are aware of Leeds’ interest and are unlikely to stand in the way, provided the club’s 49ers ownership group is willing to meet their £20 million valuation. The latest update from Football Insider suggests Phillips is actively pushing for the move, believing that returning to Leeds could help revive his career and put him back in contention for the England squad. He hasn’t featured for the Three Lions since 2023.

Phillips was once a crucial figure at Leeds, making 234 appearances, scoring 14 goals, and providing 13 assists. His performances earned him praise from City boss Pep Guardiola, who previously described him as “exceptional.” However, with Rodri dominating City’s midfield, Phillips struggled for minutes at the Etihad. Now, he’s eager for a fresh start—and a return to the club where he made his name could be the perfect solution.

As Leeds push for a Premier League return, the prospect of Phillips donning the white shirt again is one that will excite fans. If the promotion bid is successful, the summer transfer window at Elland Road could be one to watch.
