According to Foot Mercato, Rennes have highlighted Stefano Pioli as their primary target to replace Julien Stéphan should the French manager leave the Breton club. The Italian head coach is available after departing AC Milan at the end of last season.
Milan replaced Pioli with former Lille manager Paulo Fonseca. Stéphan’s situation at Roazhon Park is not secure, Foot Mercato reports. After returning to the Ligue 1 club following a spell with Strasbourg, the board at Les Rouges et Noirs have not been impressed with the results of the French head coach. Rennes have won 15 games, drawn 5 and lost 11 since Stéphan returned to the club.
With the board not unanimous on his future at the club, newly appointed sporting director Frederic Massara has earmarked a potential replacement. The former AC Milan director of football has identified Stefano Piolo whom he worked with during his time at the Rossoneri.
