Rennes considering Julien Stéphan’s future

Julien Stéphan returned to Stade Rennais following Bruno Genesio’s departure back in November. Originally, Stéphan, who originally left the club back in March 2021, returned as interim manager before later signing a two-year deal with Rennes in 2024. However, there was a downturn in form in 2024 and for the first time in seven years, the Breton club will not compete in Europe next season. Within this context, the club’s hierarchy are considering Stéphan’s future, according to Sports Zone.

Stéphan’s two-year deal at Rennes was only signed in March, however, there was an immediate downturn in form, Ultimately, Les Rennais finished tenth in Ligue 1. It will be a summer of change at the club with Frédéric Massara set to replace Florian Maurice as sporting director.

There could yet be a managerial departure too. Sports Zone are reporting that Rennes are considering Stéphan’s managerial future at the club. Recent results have not met expectations and the hierarchy are ready to take drastic action in the off season in order to provide fresh momentum.
