Julien Stéphan’s future at Stade Rennais sits on a knife edge after a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of AJ Auxerre leaves the club only two points above Le Havre AC in the relegation zone. Results have declined significantly since the manager signed a contract extension in March and Rennes have picked up only one point from 15 on their away travels this season.
According to a report by L’Équipe, it is not yet clear whether Stéphan will be on the bench for the club’s next game when they host Toulouse FC at the Roazhon Park on Saturday. However, if the club move to sack their manager then it is thought that Rudi Garcia is the priority for the sports director Frederic Massara.
Patrick Vieira, Jorge Sampaoli, and Niko Kovač
Garcia is far from the only name on the club’s list, and it is reported by the French outlet that the club are also considering Patrick Vieira (who most recently managed RC Strasbourg Alsace) and Jorge Sampaoli (who has been free since 2023). Niko Kovač also remains another option for the club.
