Amid reported interest from Manchester City, did Rennes winger Jérémy Doku (21) play his final game with Les Rouge et Noir in this Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of FC Metz?
The Belgian international was excellent against Les Grenats and received a 7/10 rating from Get French Football News. Doku’s performance earned him a standing ovation when he came off the pitch with the game firmly put to bed. “For me, Doku played one of his best games since I arrived here. He was consistent on and off the ball“, beamed Rennes head coach Bruno Genesio during his post-match press conference. “He was justly rewarded with an opportunistic goal.“
Genesio did not deny the reports that Manchester City would be willing to replace Riyad Mahrez with Doku and pay a hefty fee. It has been reported that Doku would become Rennes’ record sale, meaning City would pay in excess of €35m for the Belgian. “It all depends on the bid we’re talking about,” said Genesio. “Some offers are hard to turn down. It’s true for players, managers and everyone involved in football,” he said in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
However, the former Lyon manager understands that, so far, City are yet to make their move for the electric right-sided winger. “We’re not there yet. I don’t have any news. He is a Stade Rennais player, and until proven otherwise, we can use him.“
