Out of all of Paris Saint-Germain’s midfield signings from last summer, Portuguese international Renato Sanches has appeared to be the one struggling the most to carve out a place in the Ligue 1 leaders’ team, with his compatriot Vitinha and former Napoli man Fabián Ruiz eclipsing him so far.
As was the case in his Lille days, the Euro 2016 has been plagued by injuries – this campaign alone has seen him suffer from adductor, bruises and hamstring injuries. The latter issue had kept him out for a month before his first start in two months against Lyon ten days ago, which ended after just ten minutes after yet another injury.
Overall, the former Bayern Munich man has 18 appearances this season, and his litany of injuries have seen him grow frustrated. Although sporting advisor Luís Campos and manager Christophe Galtier know him well from their Lille days, have ostensibly not been able to unlock his potential as of yet. According to L’Équipe, Sanches has privately complained about his lack of playing time, having yet to complete a full match for PSG. It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old will be kept on ahead of a busy summer, as Campos looks to atone for last year’s hit and (mostly) miss transfer window after another disappointing campaign across the board.
