Real Sociedad star forced to pull out of Spain squad

A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad has this week suffered an injury blow.

The player in question? Mikel Oyarzabal.

Versatile frontman Oyarzabal for his part departed San Sebastian earlier this week, to take his place in Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish national team squad.

The 27-year-old, in turn, featured off the bench on Thursday night, en route to La Roja’s 0-0 Nations League stalemate with Serbia.

In the midst of as much, though, Oyarzabal picked up a concerning fitness problem.

As much was confirmed in a statement released by the RFEF this afternoon, with Spain’s Euro 2024 final hero having suffered what is described as a ‘severe sprain’ in his left ankle.

He has, in turn, departed the nation’s camp, to return to base in San Sebastian for treatment:

‘Mikel Oyarzabal has suffered a severe sprain in his left ankle and has left the Spanish national team. After undergoing an MRI this Friday, the international’s injury has been confirmed and he will return from Belgrade to San Sebastian accompanied by the RFEF medical services.’
