Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham was today knocked further down the leaderboard in the ongoing race for the Pichichi award.
As much comes owing to the latest match-winning efforts on the part of Villarreal frontman Alexander Sørloth.
Sørloth, for his part, has been in red hot form in front of goal of late, heading into the latest round of La Liga fixtures amid a stretch of six goals and two assists across his prior eight appearances.
And, on Saturday, the Norwegian was back at it again, notching a brace, including a last-gasp winner, to lead Villarreal past Sevilla.
Sørloth, in turn, has taken his tally for the La Liga campaign to 19 goals.
This is one more than has been managed by the aforementioned Jude Bellingham, who for so long looked the nailed-on favourite to bag the Pichichi.
Real Madrid’s midfield standout, though, has been relegated to 3rd on the list, with Girona’s Artem Dovbyk continuing to lead the way, as the only player to have hit the 20-mark for goals in Spain’s top-flight in 2023/24.
