The Sporting News has recently reported that Real Madrid have focused their attention on AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, after failing to secure Kylian Mbappe this summer. Los Blancos are actively looking to strengthen their frontline and have identified the Portuguese wide player as a potential option ahead of the next season.

Leao’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season

The 22-year-old has been spectacular at San Siro this season as he has already put in a handful of impressive displays on the left side of Milan’s attack. Leao participated in 42 matches for the Italian side this season, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions.

The Almada-born sensation has proven to be a consistent performer after averaging 2.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game in Serie A.

However, he needs to take care of his ball distribution from the wide areas of the pitch as he has only completed 74.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).

What Could Leao Add To Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid?

Leao can use his lighting pace to cut inside from the left flank and cause trouble in the opponent’s half. He excels at creating space for himself and is not afraid to take a shot at a goal from long range. He can also chip in with a few assists producing meaningful chances for his teammates.

At 22, the future is quite bright for the AC Milan star as long as he can continue to improve each season. He has the potential to become one of the top wingers in European football. Furthermore, he could serve as an ideal understudy to Eden Hazard, eventually succeeding the Belgian in the long term. Moreover, Rafael Leao has two years left in his contract with AC Milan; thus, it would make sense for Carlo Ancelotti to think about securing his signature this summer.

Although the Italian side will not easily let their prodigy exit from San Siro, Real Madrid could still lure him to Santiago Bernabeu if they come up with an exciting offer ahead of the next season.
