RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku will remain at the Bundesliga club this summer after both parties reached an agreement in principle for a new contract, according to Kicker.
Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has constantly reiterated that the Frenchman, who has a contract until 2024, will not be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer despite interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG. Per Sport Bild, Mintzlaff recently flew to London to undergo talks with Nkunku’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
Nkunku’s new contract will not only include a pay hike, but an exit clause that will come into effect from 2023. Per the report, this is higher than €60m, significantly higher than the €13m that RB Leipzig paid for Nkunku in 2019. Leipzig’s previous record sale was Naby Keita to Liverpool in 2018 for €60m.
The Frenchman had an outstanding campaign last season, scoring 35 goals and creating 22 in 52 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig. Nkunku also helped the club lift their first major trophy after beating Freiburg in the DFB Pokal final.
