Bundesliga side RB Leipzig will pay €19.5m plus bonuses to Chelsea for Timo Werner (26), as reported by Sky Germany.
The Germany international will undergo a medical with Leipzig before his return to Leipzig is made official, which could be as early at Tuesday. In 2020, Werner joined Chelsea for €53m, where he scored 23 goals in 89 games.
In his first season at Chelsea, Werner played 35 Premier League games but last season under Thomas Tuchel, he played just 21. Often a bit-part player, Werner wanted to leave Chelsea in order to not jeopardise a place in Hansi Flick’s Germany squad for the 2022 World Cup.
During four years at Leipzig between 2016 and 2020, Werner scored 90 goals and created 40 across 156 games in all competitions. The 26-year-old adds further firepower to Domenico Tedesco’s squad alongside Andre Silva and Yussuf Poulsen – this their latest transfer coup after signing David Raum from Hoffenheim.
