Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig is monitoring Benfica defender António Silva as the transfer deadline approaches.
The future of Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan is up in the air as we enter the penultimate day of the transfer window. The Frenchman has interested parties from Europe as well as Saudi Arabia, so Leipzig have begun planning.
Contact with Silva’s agent has already been made and the only doubt surrounding the transfer is the potential fee. Benfica are known to demand huge fees for their players and with Silva having a contract at the club until 2027 and a potential release clause of around €100m, it will be difficult for Leipzig.
There is still a possibility that Silva will move to the Red Bull Arena even if Simakan stays in this window. Leipzig currently have four centre-backs in Willi Orban, Lukas Klostermann, Simakan and Castello Lukeba, a move for a centre-back as highly rated as Silva for likely a good fee is an opportunity too good to turn down.
Leipzig have already completed the signings of Assan Ouedraogo and Arthur Vermeeren this summer, while Xavi Simons also returned on loan.
