As reported exclusively by Sky Germany, RB Leipzig are in advanced negotiations with Max Eberl to become the Bundesliga club’s new sporting director.
Eberl left his role at Borussia Mönchengladbach in January with immediate effect, citing tiredness and a lack of energy to fulfill his role at the club, thus taking a break from football. Per Sky’s report, the 48-year-old wants to continue his break until the end of the year, and could therefore start with RB Leipzig in January.
RB Leipzig have been without a sporting director since Markus Krösche left for Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. Speaking earlier in the month about the vacant position, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said the appointment of a new SD will be an “enrichment for the Bundesliga.”
Xaver Schlager has joined RB Leipzig in what is considered to be a quiet transfer window so far. But the Bundesliga side have extended the contract of Christopher Nkunku until 2026, are expected to announce the signing of David Raum from Hoffenheim and could bring Timo Werner back to the club.
