Rangers will ‘find out very soon’ over £18k-a-week star’s future at Ibrox

Rangers will find out “very soon” about the future of winger Ryan Kent as Michael Beale prepares for the January transfer window at Ibrox, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The 26-year-old is heading towards the final six months of his £18k-per-week contract with the Gers, with no sign of the wide man signing to fresh terms as of yet.

Rangers contract news – Ryan Kent

Rangers chairman Douglas Park told the club’s AGM (via Sky Sports) that the contract demands of both Kent and Alfredo Morelos are “unattainable” with it now seeming inevitable that the duo will leave Ibrox as free agents come the end of the season.

However, former Gers man Barry Ferguson has hinted that he is confident the wide man will extend his stay with the Glasgow giants having told Go Radio (via Football Scotland): “Those quotes from Beale tell me he wants to try and build the team around Ryan Kent. I liked his performance last week against Hibs but I’m just going to be greedy with Kent, I want more assists. It’s the final bit in his game that’s letting him down.”

The pundit’s comments come after Beale suggested to Sky Sports that the club would like to have a future with both Kent and Morelos involved.

Jones has previously suggested to GiveMeSport that the arrival of the club’s former assistant as head coach could encourage both players to stay with the Scottish giants heading into the January transfer window.

And the transfer insider now suggests that we will find out where the future lies for both Kent and Rangers in the coming days.

What has Jones said about Rangers and Kent?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “We’ll find out very soon because we’re reaching the stage where he’s going to be able to talk to other teams. As soon as that happens, you start to hear about more interest because teams can become more open about it.”

What next for Rangers and Kent?

Kent has not been in top form this season, potentially due to the contract talks hanging over his head, with the wide man scoring just a solitary goal and providing seven assists in 17 Premiership appearances this season, according to Transfermarkt.

According to The Mirror (via The Sun), Southampton are interested in a potential £5m deal for the Gers winger who may be tempted to play in the Premier League whilst the opportunity is there for him.

This presents Rangers with a conundrum on whether to write off any chance of the wide man staying at Ibrox beyond the summer and sell him for a transfer fee this winter, or to hold out and potentially risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Therefore, it is likely to be a decisive month for both Rangers and Kent as Beale looks to plan for a future with or without the winger.
