Rangers Reject £13m Fenerbahce Offer for Youssef Chermiti

Rangers have turned down an offer that would be the second-highest sale in the club’s history, according to reports – with Fenerbahce making an eight-figure move for forward Youssef Chermiti.

Chermiti only joined Rangers in the summer from Everton, a deal that was taken on by then-Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell. He had previously signed Chermiti for Everton from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, but despite an underwhelming spell at Goodison Park, he clearly saw something in the Portuguese star and a move to Ibrox was administered for around £10million.

It’s been an underwhelming start to life for the 21-year-old, failing to score in any Europa League clash, and he only registered one Scottish Premiership goal in his first 11 attempts up until the festive period. A brace to beat rivals Celtic 3-1 in their own backyard gave him some popularity among Rangers fans, but there was nothing to suggest a bid would arrive from abroad.

However, the report by Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath states that Fenerbahce have made a €15million (£13million) bid for Chermiti, despite his poor form in the Scottish Premiership this season with just four goals in 16 top-flight appearances for the Ibrox side.

That offer has been rejected by Rangers. The 21-year-old striker has been subject to interest in the transfer window, though it’s not been substantiated with an agreed fee from the Turkish giants.

Rangers have seen forward Danilo linked with a move away from Glasgow in recent days, with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen touted to move for the injury-stricken Brazilian in the final days of the market, but Chermiti’s exit would not be anticipated from a large section of the club’s support.

Danny Rohl has got his team firing, and they now sit just four points behind league leaders Hearts in what looks to be a three-horse race for the Scottish Premiership title. Whether Chermiti departs could affect Rangers in the title race.

Selling Chermiti Would be a Disaster for Rangers

Whether Chermiti departs could affect Rangers in the title race. Although he’s not scored many and was criticised upon joining, he’s still got striking prowess and proved that in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers haven’t won the title for five years, and that seemed a while away under Russell Martin. But interim boss Martin O’Neill hasn’t quite got Celtic going yet, and you do wonder if Hearts’ run of form will slow down at some point.

With that in mind, selling Chermiti would be a disaster and it could wipe out any progress under Rohl.
