Rangers have a ‘window of opportunity’ to cash-in on Ryan Kent if he refuses to sign a new contract, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 25-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing £18,000-per-week deal and has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time now.
What is the latest news involving Kent?
A recent report from the Sunday Mirror (via the Daily Record) claimed that both Aston Villa and Leeds United were planning on scouting Kent during Rangers’ recent Champions League clash against Liverpool.
The former England Under-20 international was unable to prevent his side from falling to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Anfield in midweek, yet he could still be an appealing prospect.
Villa and Leeds could snap Kent up on a free transfer in January by agreeing a pre-contract agreement with him, although they would be forced to wait until the summer to be able to call upon his services.
Nevertheless, Rangers’ managing director Stewart Robertson has previously stated that talks remain ongoing over extending the winger’s stay at Ibrox.
But with the January window fast approaching, the Gers hierarchy will surely have to consider offloading Kent in the winter if he refuses to put pen to paper on fresh terms rather than risk losing him for free.
What has O’Rourke said about Kent?
In an interview with GiveMeSport, O’Rourke said: “Decisions might have to be made on Ryan Kent’s future in January.

“It gives Rangers the window of opportunity to maybe cash-in on him, but a lot will depend on what offers come in for him because they won’t want to sell him on the cheap either.
“So, it’s going to be an interesting few months ahead for Ryan Kent and Rangers and where his long-term future lies.”
How big a loss would Kent be?
Kent joined Rangers from his boyhood club Liverpool back in 2019 for £7.5 million after impressing throughout a season-long loan spell at the club.
In 186 appearances for the Glasgow giants across all competitions, the rapid forward has registered 31 goals and 51 assists, leading to his former manager and current Villa boss Steven Gerrard labelling him ‘sensational’.
Kent played a pivotal part in Rangers claiming their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years in 2020/21, their Scottish Cup glory and run to the Europa League final last term, and then reaching the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2010/11 this term.
Therefore, his departure would be a bitter blow for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but Rangers may be forced to sell their prized asset in January unless his situation changes dramatically.
