PSG set to abandon the transfer deal for Milan Skriniar

Paris Saint Germain are considering pulling out of the pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to Le Parisien.

Les Parisiens were understood to have an agreement in place over a free transfer this summer but are now having second thoughts due to his fitness concerns.

The Slovakian defender has been nursing a back injury, which has kept him sidelined since February.

The setback was initially believed to be not too serious, but concerns have arisen over his long absence.

Skriniar appeared to be on the verge of joining PSG in January before Inter threw a spanner in the works and insisted that the defender was not for sale.

Nonetheless, PSG made sure that the Slovakian didn’t fall into the hands of any other suitors and soon agreed a pre-contract with him.

However, Le Parisien are claiming that the transfer could collapse, with PSG not gaining the exact knowledge about Skriniar’s injury.

Skriniar has been seen as a major part of the Ligue 1 giants’ summer revamp following a dismal season, where they suffered a Champions League elimination in the round of 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Defensive reinforcements are needed for Les Parisiens, with Sergio Ramos and Presnel Kimpembe facing uncertain futures.

Ramos is out of contract in the summer, and reports are stating that PSG are hesitant to hand him a new deal due to his agent.

In addition, PSG have been forced to slash their wage bill drastically to comply with FFP rules; therefore, there are higher chances for the Spanish defender to be sold.

As far as their defensive targets go, PSG are keeping tabs on Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae, who has established himself as one of the best central defenders in Europe this season.

Having said that, the competition will also be tougher, with some of the European heavyweights circling the South Korean international.
