As reported by our colleagues at Sports Zone, PSG are increasingly open to selling their centre-back and captain, Marquinhos, this summer.
Unlike striker Kylian Mbappé, the Brazilian defender was included in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia but drew the ire of the club’s management after his comments, which were seen to be not wholly supportive of the club’s position, at a recent press conference. Mbappé was left at home after he stated he would not sign a new deal in Paris and, as far as the club understands, would run his contract down before leaving for Real Madrid on a free next off-season.
Now 29, the defender was heavily criticized for a lack of leadership during PSG’s Champions League capitulation at Real Madrid, Paris squandering a two-goal lead late on to exit the competition 18 months ago while Marquinhos has struggled to recapture his very best form since the exit of Thomas Tuchel in December 2020. The Ligue 1 side is looking to refresh the team and move on from past failures, says the outlet, and will not hesitate to move aside should the right offer arrive for the player.
