Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed they have signed French winger Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona.
The 26-year-old has penned a five-year contract that will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 2028.
With his Camp Nou deal expiring next year, Dembele was expected to sign a new contract with the Catalans.
But he performed a surprising U-turn, expressing his desire to move to the French capital.
PSG agreed a €50 million fee with the Catalans to let the winger leave the club in this transfer window.
Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017 in a whopping €105m deal from Borussia Dortmund. But he failed to meet expectations at Camp Nou, scoring only 40 goals in 185 appearances.
A series of injuries prevented the 26-year-old from making a huge impact at the club, and he came close to leaving as a free agent last summer before agreeing to renew until 2024.
The France international saw a resurgence last season as he made 35 appearances across all competitions, with eight goals and nine assists to his name.
But he has now joined PSG to compete in the Ligue 1, where he last played with Rennes.
Dembele said in a statement to the club: “I’m delighted to be joining Paris Saint-Germain and can’t wait to play for my new club. I hope I can continue to grow here and make all the club’s fans proud.”
Manager Xavi Hernandez will likely be disappointed the former Dortmund star who played an important role in their 2022-23 La Liga winning campaign.
The Spanish boss can call upon the services of Raphinha and Ferran Torres on the wings. But he has publicly called for more reinforcements, and so Barca could add a new winger before the transfer window closes in September.
