PSG have now automatically triggered the €36m permanent clause in Hugo Ekitike’s loan deal from Reims, as pointed out by France Bleu. The forward joined Les Parisiens last summer, in a move which included an obligation to buy were PSG to finish Ligue 1 champions or runners-up. Following Marseille’s 2-1 away loss at Lille on Saturday, PSG are now certain to not finish lower than second. Yesterday’s 2-1 away win at Auxerre has also all but confirmed that PSG will seal their record 11th league title. The Christophe Galtier-led side have a six-point lead over second-placed Lens with only two games left to play. A draw away at Strasbourg on Saturday will be enough for PSG to be mathematically crowned champions.
Ekitike’s first season with PSG can be considered a disappointment. With Les Parisiens lacking an all-out striker following Mauro Icardi’s loan departure to Galatasaray, the former Stade de Reims forward missed the opportunity to become an essential part of PSG’s attacking force, which relies heavily on Kylian Mbappé (24). Ekitike is however determined to succeed at his childhood club. He has registered four goals and four assists in all competitions this season.
