Preview: Holstein Kiel vs Bayern Munich

For the very first time in the Bundesliga, Holstein Kiel will take on Bayern Munich this Saturday as the newcomers look to upset the Bavarian giants.

The last time these two sides met was back in 2021 in the DFB Pokal when Kiel claimed a shock victory over Bayern by winning 8-7 in a penalty shootout.

Kiel have endured a difficult start to life in the Bundesliga so far after losing both their opening games with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Hoffenheim on the opening day followed by a 2-0 loss at home against Wolfsburg. The aim is to avoid becoming the fourth team to lose each of their first three Bundesliga fixtures.

In attack there have been encouraging signs, as they have created several goal scoring opportunities, but manager Marcel Rapp has expressed his disappointment in how his team are currently defending as they have already conceded five goals, including two goals from set pieces against Wolfsburg.

They now take on a Bayern Munich side who have won both of their opening games under new manager Vincent Kompany and are looking to re capture the league title after disappointingly finishing third last season. They are just one of three teams with the perfect record in the league so far.

In their 2-0 win over Freiburg last week, Thomas Muller became the first player to reach 710 matches for Bayern Munich and made his night a special one by scoring the second goal of the match to secure the win for his side.

Team News

Kiel are set to be without defender Colin Noah Kleine-Bekel due to a knee injury and forward Steven Skrzybsk is a doubt due to a calf issue.

Vincent Kompany has confirmed that aside from all the long term injuries at Bayern, all players are fully fit and available for selection, including Leroy Sane who has battled with injury issues in the early stages of this season.
