According to Sport Bild, there is a ‘preliminary agreement’ for Xavi Simons’ stay at RB Leipzig to be extended if two conditions are met.
The two conditions that will allow Simons to stay in the Bundesliga are that he continues to play regularly for the Saxony club and if Leipzig qualifies for the Champions League this season then the loan will be extended by a year. Both of these conditions are easily achievable as Simons has been on of Leipzig’s stand-out players this season and the last time the club missed out on Champions League qualification was 2018.
The likely extension to the loan is due to the good relationship between Leipzig and Simons’ parent club PSG. This relationship has been developed due to dealings in the past between the two clubs and this relationship ultimately helped Leipzig sign Simons on loan in the summer.
Simons has hit the ground running in the Bundesliga so far scoring three and assisting four goals for Leipzig this season as the club currently sits sixth in the league.
