Predicted Netherlands XI v France: Memphis Depay starts amid virus in Dutch squad

The Netherlands face France tonight at the Stade de France to kick off their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024. The Ronald Koeman-led Dutch side have travelled down to France with a depleted squad ahead of the Group B opener as a result of a virus in the team, with Cody Gakpo and Matthijs De Ligt notably among the players who are absent. The Liverpool forward and the Bayern Munich centre-back were expected to start for The Netherlands. Also out with a viral infection are Joey Veerman, Sven Botman and Bart Verbruggen. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is injured, as well as Steven Bergwijn.

Koeman is therefore expected to field some new names in his starting line-up alongside experienced players. The latter includes skipper Virgil Van Dijk and former Liverpool teammate Georginio Wijnaldum. Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst is in line to start upfront, with Atlético Madrid winger Memphis Depay and Ajax striker Steven Berghuis on the wings.

The Netherlands likely XI v France
