Jamal Musiala is a doubt for Bayern Munich’s first Bundesliga game of 2025.
The 21-year-old is struggling with an illness, which means a likely start for Thomas Müller alongside Michael Olise and Leroy Sané. Another option for Vincent Kompany would be to start one of Serge Gnabry or Kingsley Coman, moving Olise into a central position.
Defensively, with Dayot Upamecano suspended and Hiroki Ito still working his way back from a metatarsal fracture, there will be a second start of the season for Eric Dier. And with Sacha Boey still sidelined, Konrad Laimer will start at right-back ahead of Raphael Guerreiro with Joshua Kimmich partnering Leon Goretzka in midfield, ahead of Aleksandar Pavlovic.
With Sven Ulreich and Daniel Peretz both absent, Max Schmitt (18), who plays for Bayern II in the fourth tier, will be Manuel Neuer’s understudy.
As for Borussia Mönchengladbach, the squad largely picks itself. Gerardo Seoane has a full strength squad available and has strong options on the bench with Florian Neuhaus, Kevin Stöger and Tomáš Čvančara.
