Yussuf Poulsen’s goal secured back-to-back wins for Hamburg with late goals, but this one also has a significant importance for the club. In their first duel against neighbours Werder Bremen back in the Bundesliga, HSV scored three second-half goals.
“This is a very special moment that we experienced together at our Volksparkstadion,” said Merlin Polzin after the match. Polzin’s substitutes combined for the winning goal as Poulsen marked his return from injury with his first goal for the club after a brilliant play by Miro Muheim.
“Our boys stuck to the plan and found good solutions. It was clear to everyone that it’s more than just a game. That’s why I’m happy for the boys and our fans.” added the 35-year-old coach.
