Manchester United manager Michael Carrick was handed plenty of food for thought following the late leveller from Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke on Saturday evening, and the Red Devils boss may now have another problem on his hands.
Spurs clinched a vital point at Old Trafford in the 92nd minute, despite being down to just 10 men for the final stages of the meeting. That strike dampened Man Utd spirits ahead of tricky meetings with Atletico Madrid and Leeds United over the next seven days.
Now, it appears as if life may be made even harder for Carrick as he prepares for those clashes with defender Luke Shaw seen limping when leaving Old Trafford on Saturday.
Man Utd star Luke Shaw limps out of Old Trafford
The left-back role has been a problem position for Man Utd this season. Shaw has started five of six Premier League fixtures so far this term, only missing out against Manchester City last month due to a fitness problem.
The 31-year-old has had his critics with high-profile errors against Hull City and Ipswich Town early in the campaign but, with the club having failed to sign a replacement in the summer, Carrick has had little choice but to persist with the full-back.
No stranger to the treatment table, the Red Devils were always going to have a problem when relying on the former England international in every clash, with no ready-made replacement. That could be put to the test this week.
A video shared online showed Shaw limping as he left Old Trafford last night, walking gingerly in worrying footage. The player was on the field until the 95th minute against Spurs, when he was replaced by Ayden Heaven.
Carrick had not commented on an potential issue for the player. The manager knows that he must be cautious with the veteran’s workload.
Prior to excluding the player against Sabah, Carrick had said: “We just gave him an extra recovery day today. We’ll see by tomorrow how he is, but it’s not an ongoing thing or a plan or anything like that.

“It was just off the back of the game the other day. So, as normal, each individual has different little things that we manage.”
A new issue would not be ideal timing for Man Utd. The Red Devils only have Harry Amass as a specialist in the left-back position, having previously fielded Patrick Dorgu out-of-position in the role against Man City.
Neither of those solutions will fill supporters with hope ahead of facing European juggernauts Atletico Madrid and in-form Leeds United over the coming days.
It was a busy day for Shaw at the Theatre of Dreams, with the defender on the receiving end of a headbutt from Spurs midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur in the 78th minute. The Man Utd man also received a booking for the part he played in the altercation.
Speaking after the match, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi would not criticise the Argentine. Spurs have lacked character at times this season and appeared to enjoy seeing the passion from his player.
Despite admitting it was a ‘mistake’ and ‘not right’, he said: “I kiss Rodrigo and say thanks. In that moment maybe with 10 players we played with more courage, more energy. For a long time Tottenham played without this blood, this character.”
