Nicolai Remberg is facing a potential lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected cruciate ligament injury during Hamburger SV’s 3-2 comeback victory over TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.
The HSV captain was forced off late in the first half following a challenge from Hoffenheim’s Bambasé Conté, with head coach Merlin Polzin offering a worrying assessment of the injury after the match.
“It looks absolutely awful. There is definitely a suspicion of a cruciate ligament injury,” Polzin told reporters.
“It is a bitter moment, not just for him personally but also for us as a team. We are hoping for the best, but it doesn’t look good.”
Losing their captain for an extended period would represent a significant blow for HSV, who climbed to 11th in the Bundesliga table with Saturday’s victory.
