Wolverhampton Wanderers will still be able to attract top players to the club as they have ‘got bit ambitions’, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Midlands outfit have enjoyed several successful seasons since returning to the Premier League back in 2018/19 but are currently sitting bottom of the table with the campaign paused for the World Cup.
What is the latest news involving Wolves?
Largely thanks to the club’s close relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes, Wolves have been able to bring in standout talents such as Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in recent years.
And new manager Julen Lopetegui claimed that he will have the ‘possibility’ to sign some players of his own during the January transfer window in his first press conference.
“I agree because my responsibility is to try and improve. When the market opens, we have this possibility and I think we are going to do that,” said Lopetegui. “I am not going to speak about names out of respect for our players.
“We have to play the next four matches with this squad. We believe in this squad, and we believe we can improve their performance.”
What has Jones said about Wolves?
Despite Wolves’ struggles at the wrong end of the division, Jones has informed GiveMeSport that he is still confident that they will be able to lure some big-name stars currently on the fringes of elite sides to Molineux.

He said: “Players that are in the fringes elsewhere will always still be interested because ultimately, players want to play football.
“And there are enough clubs around Europe that have got players that aren’t fitting into plans elsewhere that means they might still have that interest in coming into a club like Wolves who have got big ambitions.”
Who could Wolves sign?
A new striker is likely to be at the top of Lopetegui’s wish list given Wolves’ struggles in front of goal throughout the first half of 2022/23.
Summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic lasted just 45 minutes before picking up an ACL injury, while Diego Costa and Raul Jimenez are yet to find the back of the net, resulting in Wolves being the lowest scorers in the Premier League.
As a result, Chivas de Guadalajara attacker Alexis Vega is reportedly on their radar after registering three goals and four assists in 18 appearances this season.
Vega is part of Mexico’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and could showcase his credentials as a Premier League player to the Wolves hierarchy.
