Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the first time in their history, beating Inter Milan 5-0, the biggest winning margin in a final in the tournament’s history. PSG’s high press caused Inter serious problems, with the Italians giving the ball away several times in the early stages. Inter were content to keep all 11 players behind the ball when they lost possession.
It wasn’t enough to keep PSG at bay, as the Parisians broke the deadlock after 12 minutes. Vitinha split the Inter defence with a through ball to Desire Doue, who calmly squared to an unmarked Achraf Hakimi to tap into an unguarded net.
PSG doubled their lead eight minutes later. Willian Pacho did well to keep the ball in, then sent the ball up the line to Ousmane Dembele, who ran the left flank before finding 19-year-old Doue outside the box. Doue struck early, but Federico Dimarco didn’t get close enough to close down and the shot deflected in to double the lead. By this stage, PSG were moving the ball around with real confidence and belief.
Inter looked jaded in the second half even after making changes. PSG put the game beyond Inter after sixty-three minutes. Dembele flicked beautifully into the path of Vitinha, who played it onto Doue, who made no mistake. Inter’s misery was complete when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia became the first Georgian to score in a Champions League final. Inter felt the full force of PSG as 19-year-old substitute Senny Mayulu scored after playing a one-two. It capped a famous night for the Parisians.
