In a recent report, Sky Sports mentioned that Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe is on the radar of Chelsea. It has been claimed that the Blues have identified the French centre-half as a transfer target for the summer window.

Kimpembe’s Impressive Form In French Football

Kimpembe has established himself as a regular feature in Ligue 1 and deserves credit for giving a good account of himself at the heart of the PSG defence. The 26-year-old has been involved in 41 matches for the French outfit this season, netting two goals and grabbing one assist across various competitions.

The French sensation has been a dominant figure in central defence as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per game in Ligue 1.

He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 95.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Is Kimpembe A Decent Choice For Chelsea?

Kimpembe is a tough-tackling centre-back who can make some crucial interceptions inside his half and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. He can even make himself big to block a few goal-bound shots at the back and is a powerful presence in the air. Kimpembe can also chip in by scoring the odd goal from indirect set-pieces every now and then.

The French defensive ace excels at playing his way out from inside his half. Therefore, the Blues will do well to lure him to Stamford Bridge during this summer transfer period.

Kimpembe will no doubt inject a lot of quality to Chelsea‘s backline and could serve as an ideal replacement for Antonio Rudiger, who is set to leave as a free agent later this summer.

At 26, Kimpembe’s prime years are ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the West London outfit to consider in this off-season. However, only time will tell whether the French talent can maintain his high standards in England where he will be tested physically week in and week out.
