Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo criticises PSG’s “ridiculous offer” to buy the Parc des Princes

The feud between PSG and the City of Paris over the future of the Parc des Princes is far from being settled. The Ligue 1 leaders are looking to obtain outright ownership of their historic 47,000-seater ground in order to carry out expansion works. However, the Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has closed the door on a potential sale of the Parc des Princes to the Qatari-owned PSG.

Speaking this Thursday morning to RFI, Hidalgo has slammed PSG over their proposal to buy the Porte de Saint-Cloud location for a reported €38m. “There are prices that must be fixed and must correspond to the asset. When, after a whole process during which we had discussions and tried to assess what the price of the Parc des Princes could be, the club offered €38m… I think ‘ridiculous’ is the right word here”, assessed Hidalgo.

With the situation now at a standoff, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly submitted an official application to acquire the Stade de France. However, Hidalgo does not believe that PSG will leave the Parc des Princes in order to move to the Saint-Denis 80,000-seater. “It’s very complicated to sell a stadium, even if the President of the Republic has opened up this possibility. There may be a bit of bluff or misunderstanding of what our democratic rules are.” Regarding the potential sale of the Parc des Princes to PSG, Hidalgo said her stance was “irrevocable“.
