Tottenham might be waiting for something to crop up late in the window, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.
Antonio Conte got the majority of his business completed before the season got underway, but Bridge reckons that Spurs might be one defender short, which could prompt the Italian to dip back into the market.
What’s the latest news involving Tottenham?
Once Conte committed his future to Tottenham, who then responded by announcing a £150m cash injection, it became clear the north Londoners would be very active in the window.

Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet all added quality and depth to Conte’s squad before the season got underway, while wing-backs Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie were next to arrive, although the Italian will spend the season back on loan at Udinese.
Despite their seven summer signings, Spurs have loaned out Joe Rodon to Rennes, while Cristian Romero is out after sustaining an adductor injury against Chelsea, which saw him miss out against Wolves.
His absence allowed Davinson Sanchez to make his first appearance of the season, but Lenglet and Japhet Tanganga, who’s been strongly linked with a move to Serie A, are now Conte’s only centre back options in reserve.
What did Bridge say about Tottenham?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously they’ve loaned out Rodon, if [Japhet] Tanganga goes I feel like they’re one centre back light, especially with Romero’s injury and obviously he’s going to get suspended at one point.
“They tried so hard for [Alessandro] Bastoni and I just feel with a couple of weeks to go they know that something could crop up. Europe is pretty broken at the moment, so I do think Spurs are playing this cleverly.”
Do Tottenham need a centre back?
As Bridge stated, Tottenham’s need for another centre back could hinge on the future of Tanganga.
If the academy graduate ends up staying at the club, he will be one of six centre backs currently in Conte’s squad, which is likely to be enough to get them through to the World Cup and then the January window.
But if the youngster wants to move away in hope of more regular game-time, then it’s a position that must be addressed by Conte, especially with Romero’s injury being the third he’s suffered in the space of nine months.
