His departure on an expiring contract having been previously confirmed, Paulo Otavio’s 2023/24 footballing future is now set. The 28-year-old Brazilian signed a two-year-deal with Qatari outfit Al-Sadd Sports Club on Thursday. Otavio departs the Bundesrepublik after four seasons spent playing for Wolfsburg and two campaigns representing FC Ingolstadt 04.

Otavio made a total of 95 league appearances for the two clubs in the top two German footballing divisions. He garnered five assists for Niko Kovac’s VfL this year before a syndesmosis tear in the ankle prematurely ended his current campaign. Given his age and estimated market value (€6.8 million), it’s not inconceivable that Otavio may return to European football some day.
